Anthropic Puts AI in Small Business Tools

Anthropic is rolling out a new offering designed to bring artificial intelligence capabilities directly into the software small businesses rely on daily. Dubbed Claude for Small Business, the package integrates AI workflows into platforms such as Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365.

Small businesses, which constitute a significant portion of the U.S. economy, have historically struggled to adopt AI at the same pace as larger corporations. This new service aims to democratize AI access by embedding it within existing tools, moving beyond simple chat interfaces.

AI Embedded in Everyday Tools

The core of Claude for Small Business is its ability to act as an agent within these familiar applications. Users can activate the service through Claude Cowork, connect their existing software stack, and then select desired tasks.

The system offers 15 pre-built agentic workflows covering finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service. These include automated invoice chasing, payroll planning based on financial data, and drafting marketing campaigns with accompanying creative assets generated in Canva.

Anthropic emphasizes user control, stating that all AI-initiated actions require explicit approval before execution, ensuring businesses remain in command.

Bridging the AI Divide

Daniela Amodei, Co-founder and President of Anthropic, highlighted the mission to level the playing field. "AI is the first technology that can finally close that gap," she stated, referencing the resource disparity between small and large businesses.

The service prioritizes trust and security, with Anthropic noting that existing user permissions are maintained and data is not used for training by default on Team and Enterprise plans.

AI Fluency and Hands-On Training

Beyond the software, Anthropic is partnering with PayPal to offer a free online course, "AI Fluency for Small Business." This initiative aims to equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge to use AI safely and effectively.

Additionally, Anthropic is launching the Claude SMB Tour, a series of in-person workshops across several U.S. cities offering AI fluency training and hands-on experience with the new tools.

The company is also forging partnerships with organizations like Workday and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) to support solopreneurs, and with Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) to help small businesses access funding and improve services through AI.
