Democratizing AI for Entrepreneurs

Traci Lee from OpenAI's State and Local Government Affairs welcomed attendees, highlighting the current surge in AI conversations and the event's purpose: to allow participants to directly interact with AI tools. "Today is really a chance for you to try our tools for yourselves and hopefully leave with ideas that you can put to use in your everyday work and in your everyday business," Lee stated.

Danny Fitzgerald, Executive Director of the San Diego & Imperial SBDC Network, spoke about the broader implications of AI. "AI really is kind of changing a lot of how we do business and it's happening so quickly," he noted. He emphasized the importance of providing education and practical applications of these tools to the community, recognizing their transformative potential for individuals and small businesses alike.

Hands-On Learning for Real-World Impact

The event was designed to be highly practical, moving beyond theoretical discussions to offer direct engagement with ChatGPT. Attendees were able to experiment with the tool, guided by experts, to discover how it could address their specific business needs. This approach was well-received by participants.

One attendee described the experience as highly effective: "For most of us the class came in right where we were at. So, it wasn't like over our heads. The presentation was very real." The ability to immediately apply what was learned was a key benefit. "And the fact that we were able to do it right there and then and then know if we're stuck or if we had someone next to us that can help us, it was perfect," they added.

Rutger Hage, a Lecturer in Philosophy at San Diego State University, shared his perspective on AI's impact. He noted how AI has been transformative for himself and his students, and by extension, for small businesses. He stressed the importance of bringing AI education and its practical applications to the broader community, especially for entrepreneurs who can benefit from staying up-to-date with the latest AI functionalities.

Empowering Small Businesses with ChatGPT

Hilda Soto, Founder and CEO of Peaceful AI Solutions, highlighted the rapid evolution of AI tools. "There's so much happening and every single minute there's additional features and functionality," she said. She expressed her motivation to get up-to-date on what ChatGPT offers, particularly for entrepreneurs looking to gain a competitive edge.

The event's structure facilitated a deep dive into ChatGPT, allowing attendees to explore its potential for enhancing productivity, generating ideas, and solving business challenges. The hands-on nature of the workshop ensured that participants left with actionable insights and a clearer understanding of how to implement AI solutions within their own ventures.

Rebeca Sheehan, CEO of Verde Design Group, and Cyrus Cowasjee, Owner of Cyrus Cowasjee Architects, also shared their experiences, emphasizing how the training met them at their current level of understanding. They found the presentations relatable and the immediate practical application invaluable. The support provided by instructors and peers during the hands-on sessions further enhanced the learning experience, making it a highly effective and encouraging event for California's small business community.
