Amazon is injecting more than €10 billion into its European operations, signaling a significant push into advanced robotics and a substantial job expansion. The investment, detailed at the company's Delivering the Future event, aims to modernize fulfillment centers with next-generation automation and enhance delivery speeds across the continent. Next-Gen Proteus Robot Goes Global

The updated Amazon Proteus robot is set to become a fixture across fulfillment sites, capable of navigating freely and responding to conversational commands from employees. This AI-driven enhancement allows the robot to autonomously manage tasks like moving heavy carts, freeing up human workers for more complex roles in inventory management and quality control. Initial deployments in Europe are slated for the first half of 2027.

Robotics Modernization Across Europe

Beyond Proteus, Amazon is expanding its robotic capabilities with systems like STARK, a collaborative tote-handling system designed for precision picking. STARK, piloted in Barcelona, is slated for deployment at 15 European sites by 2027. Vulcan, a robot with a sense of touch, will also see expanded use.

This robotics overhaul is part of a broader €10 billion investment to upgrade European fulfillment infrastructure.

This investment will also create an additional 25,000 jobs across the region.

Career Choice Expansion

Amazon's $1 billion commitment to its Career Choice program by 2030 aims to provide fully funded education and training for employees in fields such as cybersecurity, software development, and renewable energy. Over 300,000 employees globally have already benefited from this initiative.

Ultra-Fast Delivery Gains Momentum

Amazon Now ultra-fast delivery is expanding beyond the U.S. to markets including India and the UK. This service leverages micro-fulfillment centers for rapid delivery of groceries and essentials.

Additionally, Sub Same-Day Delivery sites are being established in over 25 European locations, allowing customers to order as late as 5 p.m. for same-day delivery.

The 'Add to Delivery' feature, enabling customers to add items to existing orders without re-checkout, is rolling out across the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, and France.

Fresh grocery delivery is also expanding in London, building on significant investments in the UK grocery market.

Sustainability Milestones

Amazon's global fleet of electric delivery vans has surpassed 50,000 vehicles, marking halfway progress toward its 2030 goal.

In Europe, micromobility deliveries via electric cargo bikes and mopeds have exceeded 100 million, significantly reducing carbon emissions.
