Amazon is accelerating its ultra-fast delivery ambitions with Amazon Now, a service promising groceries and everyday essentials in 30 minutes or less. Initially available in select cities like Atlanta and Seattle, the company plans to reach tens of millions of customers nationwide by year's end, according to Amazon News.
This initiative focuses on immediacy, targeting items customers need urgently, from fresh produce like bananas and avocados to electronics and household staples. Udit Madan, senior vice president of Amazon Worldwide Operations, stated the service is designed for moments when customers require or desire the convenience of near-instant delivery.
Speed Through Proximity
To achieve these rapid delivery times, Amazon Now leverages a network of smaller, strategically located fulfillment centers. This minimizes travel distance for delivery partners and prioritizes employee safety during order picking and packing.
The service aims to complement Amazon's existing delivery options, which include Prime Air drone delivery, 1-hour and 3-hour delivery, and Same-Day Delivery. Amazon Now specifically addresses the demand for immediate needs, distinguishing itself with its sub-30-minute promise.
Pricing and Access
Prime members pay a $3.99 delivery fee per order, a significant discount compared to the $13.99 charged to non-Prime customers. Additional small order fees apply for orders under $15. For those considering a Prime subscription, it costs $14.99 per month or $139 annually, with discounted options available for young adults and qualifying government-assistance recipients.
