Robinhood Platinum Card Debuts

Robinhood is upping its credit card game with the rollout of the Robinhood Platinum Card. This move signals an aggressive push into the premium financial product space, aiming to capture a segment of high-spending customers previously underserved by the company. Invites are currently being extended to a select group, with broader availability planned in the coming months, as detailed by Robinhood Newsroom.

The card, announced earlier this year, is positioned as a significant upgrade from its Gold counterpart. It features a substantial weight and platinum plating, designed to convey a premium feel. This physical heft is matched by higher credit limits, reportedly up to five times those of the Gold Card, and a benefits package tailored for affluent users.

Elevated Benefits for Premium Users

Robinhood has refined the Platinum Card's offerings based on customer feedback. New additions include $120 in annual DoorDash credits, distributed monthly with no minimum order requirement, alongside a complimentary DashPass membership.

Travel perks have been significantly enhanced, with $1,000 in annual travel credits. This includes $700 for hotels booked through Robinhood for stays of two nights or more, and $300 in flight credits, delivered in $150 increments semi-annually. The hotel network has expanded to over 1,700 properties, promising benefits like priority late checkout and room upgrades.

Autonomous vehicle services are now covered by a $250 annual credit for Waymo rides, issued monthly. A dedicated white-glove concierge service is also available, offering assistance with exclusive events, private flights, and travel disruptions via text.

Wellness benefits are also a focus, featuring a complimentary WHOOP Peak membership with hardware included. Additionally, cardholders can receive a one-time credit of up to $1,000 towards an Eight Sleep Pod and Base until September 15th.

Core Rewards and Perks Remain

Existing Robinhood credit card rewards are carried over and enhanced. Cardholders will earn 5% cash back on eligible dining and flights booked through Robinhood, and 10% on hotels and rental cars booked via the app. Other eligible purchases receive 1% cash back.

The card also retains a $250 annual dining credit at over 15,000 restaurants and includes a complimentary Robinhood Gold membership. Further travel conveniences include no foreign transaction fees, statement credits for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, comprehensive travel protection, and unlimited access to over 1,400 Priority Pass airport lounges worldwide.

Health and wellness are further supported by a complimentary $365 Function Health membership, offering extensive lab tests and clinician insights, and an Amazon One Medical membership valued at $199.

Value Proposition and Availability

Robinhood claims the Platinum Card offers over $3,000 in annual value for a $695 annual fee, positioning it as a more cost-effective option compared to other premium credit cards. The ongoing credit card rewards strategy aligns with the company's broader integration of financial services.
