Six in 10 senior leaders anticipate operating robot fleets within five years, yet only four in 10 possess a formal strategy for a mixed human-robot workforce. This disparity highlights a significant "robotics readiness gap Intel" is now addressing, according to new research commissioned by the chipmaker. The study, conducted by Coleman Parkes Research in partnership with Man Bites Dog, surveyed 800 leaders across the US, UK, Germany, Japan, China, and South Korea, representing organizations with over $500 million in annual revenue. Organizations already deploying robots report tangible gains in productivity, quality, and service speed, viewing robotics as a competitive imperative rather than a mere experiment. "The next phase of robotics adoption won't be defined by whether organizations can deploy robots it will be defined by whether they're ready to scale them," stated John Healy, Vice President and General Manager of Intel's Industrial and Robotics Division. "Those that embed robotics and Physical AI into their core operations, rather than layering them on top of existing systems, will be the ones who capture the full value of this shift." The research identifies five key factors separating successful robotics scaling from pilot purgatory: strategy, skills, safety, shape, and scale. While 67% of leaders are confident in managing a mixed workforce by 2030, only 40% have a current formal strategy. This strategic deficit is a core component of the "robotics readiness gap Intel" aims to bridge. Furthermore, 40% of leaders report a lack of available skills and talent as a barrier to scaling robotics, even as two-thirds believe robots will enhance their human workforce's capabilities. Safety concerns have delayed deployments for 55% of respondents, though 31% cite safety as a key area where robots have already delivered value. The physical form of robots is also a consideration, with 65% believing current designs are dictated by technological limitations rather than practical needs. Rapid decision-making is critical for robotics, with over three-quarters of leaders stating that key applications require decisions within 100 milliseconds, and nearly a quarter needing sub-10-millisecond responses. Currently, only 42% of organizations have a defined, funded edge or on-device AI strategy, with 39% actively developing one.
