Building Accessibility into Workflows

Furthering these efforts, GitHub partnered with All Things Open for the first Open Source Accessibility Summit in October 2025. This event gathered 100 attendees to define a roadmap for improving open source software accessibility.

GitHub is also investing in practical resources. The Open Source Accessibility organization serves as a hub for collaboration and roadmap sharing. A best practices guide and updated documentation offer actionable advice.

The GitHub Accessibility Scanner, an AI-powered tool using GitHub Actions and Copilot, aims to identify and fix accessibility issues automatically. Additionally, an open source Figma toolkit supports accessibility-focused design handoffs.

These tools are designed to streamline the integration of accessibility into daily development practices.

Two upcoming events offer direct opportunities for engagement. The Open Source Accessibility Community Day on July 9, 2026, is a virtual event showcasing hackathon project progress and identifying areas where contributors are needed.

The Open Source Accessibility Summit in Raleigh, North Carolina, on October 19, 2026, will focus on teaching accessibility best practices for open source contributions, emphasizing direct learning from individuals with disabilities.
