Claude Code Sets Opus 4.8 as Default Model for Developers

Anthropic's developer platform, Claude Code, is streamlining its offerings by making Claude Opus 4.8 the new default model for its Max, Team Premium, Enterprise pay-as-you-go, and Anthropic API accounts. This move, detailed in the latest Claude Code Updates, signals a push towards higher-tier capabilities becoming standard for many users.

The latest updates, spanning May 25-29, introduce significant enhancements. Claude Opus 4.8 is now configured with high effort by default, with an option for /effort xhigh for particularly demanding coding tasks. This positions the model for more complex problem-solving.

New Capabilities Roll Out

The platform is also rolling out dynamic workflows that can orchestrate dozens, or even hundreds, of sub-agents from a single script. This allows for more complex, automated agent interactions.

Security is also a focus, with the introduction of a security-guidance plugin. This tool reviews Claude's code changes in real-time to identify potential vulnerabilities.

For performance-conscious users, a fast mode now leverages Opus 4.8, offering competitive pricing at $10/$50 per million tokens.

Windows users benefit from improved compatibility, with Git Bash no longer being a strict requirement.
