No venue like Polymarket lists liquid odds on GPT-6.1 Terra adoption as of Oct 26, so current prices and volume sit at zero and movement is limited to social chatter after the OpenAI reveal, which means there is no market test yet for the 50 percent price cut. Not financial advice. Markets move fast.
OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Terra as a fast, efficient model for visual reasoning and computer use, positioned as a step up from GPT-5.6 Terra for everyday work.
The timeline matters because GPT-5.6 Terra set the prior cost and capability baseline, and GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol had staked out the frontier tier that Terra now chases at lower cost.
What had to be true was proven demand for high volume automation, from invoice reading to form filling and video editing, where price per token blocks deployment.
What still has to happen is independent validation outside OpenAI benchmarks and broad rollout beyond Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex.
Terra sits directly below GPT-6.1 Sol as a cost-efficient mid-tier reasoning and evaluation model, according to an analysis of the unreleased lineup published by Kie.ai.
On Agents' Last Exam, which includes turning architectural drawings into 3D models, Terra scored 15 percentage points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra at medium reasoning effort at about one third the cost, per OpenAI.
The company said Terra matches GPT-6 Astra at one tenth the price per token and at max effort is over three times as token efficient as Claude Opus 5.5 at one fourth the price per token, for roughly 9x lower cost per task.
OSWorld 2.1, which tests desktop app use for multistep tasks, showed Terra beating GPT-5.6 Terra's best score at medium effort for a fraction of cost per task.
On MMMU-Pro for visual reasoning, Terra outperformed GPT-5.6 Terra at every setting and nearly matched GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol at lower cost.
Factuality improved as the internal error rate on adversarial prompts fell from 53.6 percent with GPT-5.6 Terra to 16.7 percent with Terra at low effort, and to 4.3 percent at max effort.
For coding, Terminal-Bench 4.0 at max effort saw Terra solve 50.3 percent of tasks, more than double GPT-5.6 Terra's 21.5 percent, though OpenAI noted GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra remain better for the most complex work.
Standard API pricing is $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 per million cached input tokens, and $5 per million output tokens as gpt-6.1-terra.
Terra meets the Critical threshold in cybersecurity under the Preparedness Framework and carries the safeguards built for GPT-6 Astra, with stronger prompt injection resistance and better scope discipline in OpenAI's tests.
The practical consequence is a model built for throughput, but the cost claims and safety posture still need outside replication and enterprise workflow proof.
