Hahnbee Lee said 80% of Mintlify docs views now come from AI agents, up from a 10% share at the start of the year. The AI Engineer fireside chat paired Lee, co-founder and CTO of Mintlify, with Lincoln Murr, head of AI product at Coinbase, to detail how docs and payments must change for that traffic.

The affected systems are developer documentation sites and API payment flows. Lee said agents do not see design or branding and will stall on friction. Murr said remote agents need API access, not browser automation, with guardrails for financial actions. No exploit was demoed and no patch was discussed.

Lee said page size now matters more than front-end polish because it consumes context window. She described agents that read docs, try to set up a product, then churn to a competitor if they hit one error. Her point was that content accuracy and freshness outweigh visual design when the reader is code.

Murr said Coinbase logged 100 million agentic transactions in the past year, all on chain and publicly auditable. He tied that growth to x402, the HTTP 402 Payment Required standard Coinbase externalized into a foundation co-governed by Cloudflare, Stripe, Amex, Mastercard and Visa. The use case is agents buying API access for fractions of a cent, down to 1/100,000 of a cent for a single call, without pre-funding each service or managing separate API keys. He called APIs the fundamental layer, with MCP and CLI as wrappers.

That stablecoin rail now has alternatives. Quai Network introduced x402 Work, a variant that lets devices pay with proof-of-work compute instead of dollars for online services, according to Altcoin Buzz. The baseline x402 spec itself defines exact, upto and batch-settlement flows where a 402 response prompts payment before retry, with the exact flow verifying payment before the service handler runs, according to TokenPost. Viewed together, Coinbase bets on cheap digital dollars for microtransactions, Quai bets on compute, and the spec still lacks a single common test for agent purchases. Teams checking their own docs can run an agent readiness scanner to measure context cost and machine readability.

Lee said Mintlify tracks the agent share internally and takes bets on where it goes next, while Murr said Coinbase will keep moving its consumer trading and money management features to agent-accessible APIs. The next signal to watch is whether Mintlify reports the share crossing 90% and whether the x402 foundation publishes its next spec revision.
