Runloop Raises $7M to Power AI Coding Agents

Runloop, a San Francisco infrastructure startup, has raised $7 million in a seed funding round. The General Partnership led the investment, with participation from Blank Ventures. The company provides cloud-based development environments specifically for deploying and managing AI coding agents in production.

The startup addresses a critical operational gap for companies building with generative AI. As developers create sophisticated agents to automate coding tasks, they require secure, isolated environments for these agents to execute their work. Runloop’s platform provides the necessary infrastructure for these digital workers to function effectively.

Cloud-Based Devboxes for AI Development

Runloop’s core product offers ephemeral, cloud-based "devboxes." These isolated environments give AI coding agents full access to filesystems, build tools, and compilers. Consequently, companies can spin up thousands of these devboxes on demand for large-scale tasks and then tear them down once the work is complete.

For example, one customer deploys thousands of agents simultaneously to analyze code repositories. The agents then automatically write unit tests to improve code coverage, demonstrating the platform's scalability for complex enterprise AI workflows.

Runloop also offers a product called Public Benchmarks. This tool provides standardized testing for agent performance on complex, multi-step tasks, moving beyond simple language model evaluations.

The company operates in a market with major players like Microsoft and Google, who offer their own developer tools. However, Runloop focuses on the underlying infrastructure layer, enabling companies to deploy specialized agents that can outperform general-purpose tools for specific tasks.

Despite only launching billing in March, the company reports customer growth exceeding 200%.

The new capital will primarily fund engineering and product development. Runloop’s team includes engineers with experience from Vercel, Scale AI, and Stripe, providing a deep background in building enterprise-grade infrastructure for AI coding agents.
