The pace of AI innovation demands compute infrastructure that can keep up. Snowflake has officially launched its Snowflake Adaptive Compute, now generally available on AWS. This move aims to address the unpredictable, spiky nature of modern data workloads, particularly those driven by AI and natural language processing.

This capability, powered by Adaptive Warehouses, is designed to automate infrastructure management, reducing the manual tuning and complexity typically associated with scaling compute resources. The goal is to boost throughput, accelerate time-to-insight, and free up engineering teams to focus on core innovation rather than infrastructure maintenance.

Global Reach and Resilience

Snowflake is expanding Adaptive Compute to additional global regions, enhancing its geographic presence and enabling critical Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery pairings. Availability now includes key regions in the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific, with further expansion planned.

Available regions include:

  • Americas: US West 2 (Oregon), US East 2 (Ohio)
  • Europe: EU West 1 (Ireland), EU Central 1 (Frankfurt)
  • Asia Pacific: AP Northeast 1 (Tokyo), AP Southeast 2 (Sydney)

Price-Performance Gains

The company claims Adaptive Compute offers superior price-performance, outperforming its Snowflake Gen2 Standard Warehouses by 1.2x on the TPC-DS 10TB Concurrency Benchmark. This enhanced efficiency is expected to deliver more throughput per dollar for demanding data workloads.

To help customers evaluate these benefits, Snowflake is preparing to launch Compute Advisor, a self-service framework for testing and comparing compute tiers with real-world workloads. Additionally, Snowflake's CoCo Compute skill has been enhanced to guide users in identifying and optimizing warehouse conversions to Adaptive Compute.

Continuous Innovation

Snowflake is also rolling out significant performance upgrades to its Gen2 Standard Warehouses at no additional cost. These include dozens of query engine improvements focused on compilation time, query plan quality, and execution optimization, such as new runtime optimizations for data skew and semi-structured data access.

Improvements to Snowflake Optima, the platform's optimization layer, are also being introduced, enabling smarter planning and execution decisions based on workload behavior without manual intervention. This continuous innovation underscores Snowflake's commitment to elevating its entire compute portfolio, supporting its broader AI Push for the Agentic Enterprise and efforts like Snowflake Supercharges AI Data Engineering.
