Databricks is bringing its AI-powered data assistant, Genie One, to smartphones with a new native mobile app for iOS and Android. This move aims to put the "data-smart AI coworker" directly into the pockets of business users, enabling them to access insights and take action from anywhere.

The Genie One mobile app allows users to chat with Genie, schedule tasks, explore dashboards, and interact with Databricks Apps. All functionalities are grounded in the same business context and governed data available through the web interface.

This expansion addresses the need for real-time data access in industries where decisions are made away from a desk, such as retail or field operations. Previously, users might have had to jot down questions or rush back to a laptop, but the mobile app provides immediate access.

On-the-Go Insights and Action

Leveraging Genie Ontology and curated logic from Genie Agents, the mobile app translates natural language questions into answers grounded in company data. Integrations with tools like Google Drive and Microsoft 365 ensure answers are contextualized, regardless of data location, while respecting source permissions.

For business users, this means self-serve answers in plain language without needing to understand data origins or modeling. The app retains the agentic capabilities of its web counterpart, supporting conversational AI, skills, and MCP.

The Databricks Genie One experience is designed to be comprehensive, extending core conversational AI, dashboard exploration, and Databricks Apps access to mobile devices.

Etihad is already leveraging the mobile app to provide teams with data access across continents and time zones, facilitating faster decisions and operational efficiency. Evan Digney, Head of Enterprise Data & AI Platforms at Etihad, noted that insights in hand mean better outcomes, whether on the ground or in the air.

Mobile-Optimized Dashboards

AI/BI Dashboards are automatically mobile-ready, reflowing into a single-column layout in portrait mode for easier viewing on smaller screens. Landscape mode preserves the original dashboard layout.

Enterprise-Grade Governance, Anywhere

The Genie One mobile app maintains Databricks' commitment to enterprise governance and security. Authentication uses the same OAuth flow as the browser, with Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enforced via identity providers.

Permissions are managed through source-native ACLs or Unity Catalog, ensuring users only see data they are authorized to access. Existing network controls, including IP access lists, Private Link, and VPNs, apply to the mobile app as they do to the web interface, with no separate mobile backend.

The Databricks Genie One platform's security profile is preserved, with data remaining in its designated region.

What's Next

Databricks plans to expand mobile capabilities further, with features like dark mode, push notifications for scheduled tasks and insights, and voice mode for chat already in development. Account-level access to Genie One on mobile is also a priority.

The company aims for the Genie One mobile app to evolve into the ubiquitous AI coworker for business users, always accessible in their pocket.

The Genie One mobile app is currently available in Public Preview for iOS and Android devices.
