Databricks is rolling out a public preview of its custom URL feature, a move designed to consolidate access to its platform under a single, branded domain. Previously, each Databricks workspace had its own distinct URL, a system that became cumbersome as organizations scaled their usage.

The new Databricks custom URL, such as mycompany.databricks.com, replaces these individual workspace URLs. This change means users log in once and can seamlessly navigate across all accessible workspaces within their account, eliminating the need for repeated authentication.

Unified Experience, Streamlined Access

This unification simplifies daily workflows. For instance, a typical data task might involve moving between development, staging, and production workspaces. With custom URLs, a user’s login session persists, enabling fluid transitions without interruption.

Francis Hart, VP Data, AI & Online Technology at SEGA Europe, noted that this change makes the platform feel "smoother, faster, and a lot more intuitive."

A unified login also enhances access to account-wide features. The Genie unified chat experience, for example, is now more accessible for business users seeking insights across dashboards, apps, and Genie spaces within the entire Databricks account.

This capability extends to governance. Unity Catalog lineage now provides a comprehensive view across all workspaces, showing dependencies and upstream/downstream assets without requiring users to log into each workspace individually.

Disaster Recovery and Future Plans

The custom URL also simplifies disaster recovery. A single account-level entry point routes users to the appropriate workspace, even after a failover, preserving existing connections and user sessions.

Account admins can enable this feature via the account console. Future updates promise account-level Frontend Private Link support, unified IAM administration, and enhanced cross-workspace search capabilities, further centralizing Databricks account management.
