OpenAI is launching a new venture, the OpenAI Deployment Company, aimed at helping organizations integrate advanced AI into their core operations. This move signals a strategic push beyond model development into practical, everyday application for businesses. The company intends to embed specialized engineers, known as Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs), directly into client organizations.
These FDEs will collaborate with business leaders and frontline teams to identify impactful AI use cases, redesign workflows, and build reliable systems. The initiative is designed to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI capabilities and tangible business outcomes.
In conjunction with this launch, OpenAI has agreed to acquire Tomoro, an applied AI consulting firm. This acquisition is expected to bring approximately 150 experienced engineers and deployment specialists to the new entity from day one, significantly boosting its implementation capacity.
A New Entity, Significant Backing
The OpenAI Deployment Company is structured as a partnership, with OpenAI maintaining majority ownership and control. It launches with over $4 billion in initial investment from a consortium of 19 global investment firms, consultancies, and system integrators, including TPG, Bain Capital, and McKinsey & Company.
