Hydnum Steel

Hydnum Steel is a pioneering project focused on establishing a state-of-the-art green steel production facility in Puertollano, Ciudad Real, Spain. The plant aims to produce high-quality hot-rolled flat steel with significantly reduced CO2 emissions, targeting an initial production of 1.5 million tons per year, and reaching up to 2.6-2.7 million tons per year in its full operational phases. The company's core value proposition lies in its commitment to decarbonizing the steel industry by exclusively using 100% renewable energy and green hydrogen for direct reduced iron (DRI) production and electric arc furnaces (EAF). Hydnum Steel also emphasizes sustainable water management through greywater reuse and zero liquid discharge systems, and integrates advanced industrial digitalization, including AI-supported Digital Twin technology, for efficient and smart production. The target users are industries requiring low-carbon steel, such as automotive, construction, and renewable energy sectors, both domestically in Spain and across Europe. Agustín Escobar was a key driving force behind the project, and Eric Vitse served as CTO before his passing in August 2023.
