L3Harris has licensed Shield AI Tracker C-UAS to equip its VAMPIRE platform, creating an integrated passive detection and precision strike package announced September 1 in San Diego.

The combined system promises AI-powered drone detection and engagement without radar or RF emissions.

Tracker C-UAS is part of Shield AI Vision Systems and uses proprietary AI and computer vision to detect, discriminate, and track faraway threats in EO/IR video.

What changes for VAMPIRE with Tracker

VAMPIRE is a self-contained counter-UxS kit built to deploy on nearly any platform and deliver ISR and precision strike at lower cost per effect than traditional missiles.

Since 2023 the system has logged more than 350,000 operational hours and shot down hundreds of hostile drones in combat, primarily in support of European operations.

This build extends an earlier demonstration where L3Harris integrated WESCAM MX-Series EO/IR sensors with Tracker C-UAS to detect multiple classes of UAS at ranges beyond existing systems.

Where Shield AI Tracker C-UAS fits in the counter-drone stack

Passive EO/IR has clear appeal. It warns and tracks without emitting and giving away position.

It also has limits. Weather, obscurants, and clutter still degrade EO/IR, and Shield AI is explicitly licensing the software for other platforms operators already use, not locking it to VAMPIRE alone.

The test is volume fielding and integration speed. Passive detection must prove it extends first-detection range reliably in clutter, at night, and across maritime and land domains, or operators will still lean on radar and jammers for early warning.

If licensed Tracker ships widely across VAMPIRE and other EO/IR turrets, Shield AI turns a point integration into a platform tax on passive sensing. If not, it remains another capable vision model waiting for hardware.
