New data from OpenAI reveals a significant expansion and deepening of ChatGPT adoption trends for 2026, showcasing accelerated global integration of AI into daily life. Users are not only engaging more frequently but also exploring a wider array of applications over time, while the platform's demographic reach diversifies across regions and languages.

The OpenAI Signals report, leveraging aggregated data from individual ChatGPT plans (Free, Go, Plus, Pro), illustrates how AI usage is evolving at a global scale. This analysis provides a clearer picture of how people worldwide are incorporating ChatGPT into work, learning, and personal routines, underscoring AI's growing societal benefit.

Users Deepen & Expand Engagement

As individuals spend more time with ChatGPT, their interaction intensifies. Six months post-signup, users sent 50% more daily messages and doubled the number of distinct tasks they attempted on the platform.

This sustained engagement indicates a strong integration into user workflows and habits. The data, based on a 0.1% sample of users from late 2025 to mid-2026, measures both message volume and the breadth of capabilities explored.

Adoption Accelerates Globally

ChatGPT's user base has grown sharply across every continent since July 2023, with Africa and Asia experiencing the most rapid relative expansion. This growth is mirrored in lower-Human Development Index (HDI) countries, which have seen the fastest relative increase in weekly active users.

OpenAI's continued provision of low-cost access through its Free and Go plans has likely fueled this acceleration, particularly in emerging markets.

User Base Becomes More Global and Diverse

The platform's demographics are shifting significantly. Non-English usage now accounts for over half of all active users, with Spanish, Portuguese, and Arabic leading the charge. Uzbek, Kazakh, and Burmese demonstrated the largest percentage increase in active user share since July 2023.

Furthermore, usage by individuals with typically-female names has increased, now representing the majority of global usage. Countries like Brazil, Colombia, Poland, and Namibia show usage by users with typically feminine names significantly exceeding those with masculine names, indicating a broader demographic appeal.
