Anthropic is launching Claude Tag, a new feature designed to embed its AI assistant directly into team workflows, starting with Slack. The AI can now join selected Slack channels as a team member, granting it access to specific tools, data, and codebases. Users can summon Claude by tagging @Claude within a channel to delegate tasks, allowing them to focus on other priorities.

Claude Tag builds context by retaining relevant information from its channels and can proactively plan and execute future tasks. This integration is seen as an evolution of Anthropic's existing AI tools, making Claude more proactive and collaborative within a team setting.

The company claims that 65% of its product team's code is now generated by an internal version of Claude Tag, indicating significant adoption and efficiency gains. The functionality is also being used beyond engineering for tasks like tracking product metrics, processing support tickets, and debugging.

Collaborative AI Teammate

Claude Tag operates as a shared resource within a Slack channel, meaning any team member can interact with it and see its ongoing work. This creates a multiplayer dynamic, fostering a collaborative environment akin to working with a human teammate.

The AI learns over time, accumulating channel context to reduce the need for repetitive explanations. It can also learn from other permitted Slack channels and data sources, though it respects privacy by not reporting from private channels.

An "ambient" behavior setting allows Claude to proactively share relevant information and follow up on stalled threads without explicit prompting. This initiative-taking capability aims to keep teams informed and tasks moving forward.

Claude Tag supports asynchronous work, allowing users to delegate tasks and continue with their own priorities while the AI handles the work. It can even schedule tasks autonomously over extended periods.

Controlled Access and Rollout

System administrators have granular control over Claude Tag's access to sensitive data and tools, with permissions scoped to specific channels. This creates distinct AI identities for different functions, preventing data leakage between, for example, sales and engineering teams.

Administrators can also set token spend limits for the organization and individual channels, and review logs of all AI actions. Claude Tag is available today in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers. Migrating from the previous Claude in Slack app is supported for 30 days, with introductory launch credits offered to eligible organizations.
