Copenhagen-based SUMM Ingredients, formerly Nutrumami, secured €1.7 million in new funding. EIFO and BoxOne led the round, joining existing investors Kost Capital and Planetary Impact Ventures. This investment supports the company's rebrand and strengthens its leadership team.
The capital will accelerate production and commercial rollout of FermiPro, SUMM Ingredients' first multifunctional fermented protein ingredient. FermiPro is set to launch with customers in autumn 2025. This innovation targets the growing plant-based foods market.
FermiPro delivers complex umami flavor and kokumi, naturally building texture without additives. This fermented protein ingredient also improves nutritional quality with protein, minerals, and B-vitamins.
Advancing Multifunctional Protein Technology
This ingredient reduces the need for flavorings, starches, gums, and E-numbers. Furthermore, it enables greater use of legumes in food production. Companies like Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat could benefit from such advancements.
SUMM Ingredients already showcases FermiPro applications across several categories. These include FermiPro Cultured ProMix for plant-based cheese and FermiPro Saucier for dairy-free sauces. FermiPro Texture+ also enhances hybrid and plant-based meats.
