The announcement was made by AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su at London Tech Week.

New Collaborations

AMD is forging new strategic partnerships to advance AI and quantum computing research. A collaboration with Imperial College London will focus on computational science and large-scale computing resources for fields like healthcare and climate modeling. They will also explore optimizing AI models and scientific workflows on AMD's platforms, including its ROCm open software ecosystem, which powers advanced AI solutions like those mentioned in Meta Taps AMD for 6GW AI Buildout and aligns with AMD's broader AMD AI Strategy Targets Trillion-Dollar Compute Market.

Additionally, AMD is partnering with Oriole Networks to support the UK's Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) Scaling Inference Lab. This initiative aims to address AI infrastructure bottlenecks using Oriole's photonic networking architecture combined with AMD Instinct GPUs and EPYC processors.

Expanding Supercomputing Capacity

AMD and Dell Technologies are bolstering the UK's national AI supercomputing capabilities. They are supporting the University of Cambridge's new Zenith AI supercomputer and the upcoming Sunrise fusion AI system. These systems, funded by government departments, will power AI-for-science applications ranging from healthcare research to fusion energy development.
