Meta has reportedly struck a significant five-year agreement to deploy Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) processors in its data centers, signaling a major push in its artificial intelligence infrastructure. The deal, first reported by Bloomberg Podcast, includes plans for Meta to utilize 6 gigawatts worth of AMD-based data center gear.
This strategic Meta AMD Instinct GPU deal marks a substantial victory for AMD, which is aggressively working to challenge Nvidia's dominance in the booming AI chip market. The partnership is expected to involve AMD's Instinct GPUs, crucial for powering advanced AI workloads and Meta’s extensive metaverse ambitions.
Bloomberg's Ed Ludlow highlighted that the long-term nature of the agreement projects considerable confidence for AMD. While Meta's shares saw little change following the news, AMD's stock surged over 7%, underscoring investor optimism for the chipmaker's expanded role in Meta's colossal AI spending spree.
