UK AgTech NZN Raises €5.6M Seed for Biofertilizer Solution

Nottingham-based AgTech company NetZeroNitrogen (NZN) secured €5.6 million in Seed funding. World Fund and Azolla Ventures co-led the round. Consequently, this investment brings NZN's total funding to €7 million.

NZN develops a biofertilizer using endophytic bacteria. This biofertilizer solution significantly reduces farmers' reliance on synthetic nitrogen fertilisers (SNFs). Indeed, SNFs contribute 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

The biofertilizer offers a "green discount," being both greener and more cost-effective. Moreover, it requires no new farm machinery. Furthermore, the product involves no genetic modification, ensuring compliance with EU regulations.

Driving Sustainable Fertiliser Innovation

The fresh capital will fund key hires in ASEAN markets. It also supports certification and finalisation of commercial agreements. Ultimately, NZN aims to transform the $200 billion global fertiliser market, competing with established players like Yara International and Nutrien.

NZN's product is currently in trials. The company plans market entry in 2026.

Traditional SNF production, like the Haber-Bosch process, has devastating climate impacts. Therefore, NZN offers a vital alternative to these methods, advancing sustainable agriculture. Existing investors Zero Carbon Capital, Revent, and Kibo Invest also participated, alongside new investor Ananke. Innovate UK provided early support.
