NetZeroNitrogen recently secured $6.6 million in a seed funding round. World Fund and Azolla Ventures jointly led this investment. The company focuses on developing bacterial strains.

These bacterial strains replace synthetic fertilizer on farm fields. They enable plants to draw nitrogen directly from the atmosphere. This approach significantly reduces the environmental impact of traditional farming.

NetZeroNitrogen's technology stems from over a decade of research by Gary Devine. The company's bacteria are naturally occurring, simplifying regulatory pathways. This also opens access to organic markets.

Funding Fuels Sustainable Agriculture

The startup plans its initial product rollout for rice cultivation. Seeds are easily treated by dunking them in water containing the bacterial strains. This method integrates seamlessly into existing farming practices.

NetZeroNitrogen aims to offer its bacterial amendment at least $50 per hectare less than synthetic fertilizers. This cost-effective solution provides a 30-40% discount in regions like Southeast Asia. The company's biomanufacturing process is far cheaper than the Haber-Bosch process used by fertilizer producers like Nutrien. This innovation significantly advances agritech.
