Bloomberg reporter Matt Piper highlights a massive surge in corporate capital expenditures, led by the tech industry's largest operators. Big Tech companies are committing trillions of dollars to secure physical computing power, data center real estate, and long-term energy contracts to satisfy mounting demand for machine learning workloads.

Big Tech Pledges $2.4 Trillion for Data Centers

The four largest operators in the data center expansion, Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL), Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), have committed nearly $2.4 trillion in combined capital over coming years. This capital targeting artificial intelligence infrastructure includes expanded obligations for facility leases, real estate development, energy procurement, and specialized hardware.

Executives across these digital platforms cite an urgent need to capture unprecedented demand for computing power. Financial commitments for these projects now extend decades into the future, illustrating how deeply physical power availability and data center footprint have become critical bottlenecks for high-performance computing.

SpaceX Prepares First Earnings Release Amid High Short Interest

Market focus also turned to SpaceX as the company prepares to report its first quarterly financial results as a public company next Tuesday. Short interest stood at 219.3 million shares as of Wednesday, representing roughly 34 percent of the public float.

A major liquidity transition will follow the report. Under a staggered lockup arrangement, up to 911.5 million additional shares could enter the open trading market two days after earnings, significantly increasing potential trading volume.

Wall Street Caps Trading Month with Broad Gains

Broader markets ended both the trading week and the month on a positive note across major benchmarks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.5 percent, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.7 percent. The tech-heavy Nasdaq led overall market gains with a 1 percent increase.
