Amazon introduced the all-new Echo Show 16, its most advanced smart display yet, with a 16-inch full high-definition screen and Fire TV built in. Pre-orders opened today with shipping later this year, Amazon said.
It is a bet that the screen matters more as Alexa does more.
Echo Show has been Amazon's fastest-growing Echo line, up more than 25% year over year, because some jobs want eyes not just voice. Recipes, family schedules, comparison shopping. That growth had to happen before a bigger, pricier anchor device made sense, and the new Alexa+ had to be ready to fill it. Amazon said every new device in this lineup ships with the latest Alexa+, which now holds more natural conversations, reasons across sources, and builds interactive Cards you can revisit in the Alexa app and on Alexa.com.
The hardware timeline is a step from the Echo Show 15. Amazon said the 16 has 10% more viewing area, colors twice as vibrant, and an anodized aluminum frame that is nearly 40% thinner. Inside the slim body are eight custom micro woofers and two tweeters with Advanced Room Adaptation that tunes playback whether the unit is wall-mounted or on a counter stand. The standard display costs $499.99. The Nanomatte option, which uses the same pixel-aligned etched glass as Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, costs $569.99. Amazon said it cuts glare by more than 90% and sparkle by 50% while keeping blacks and color accuracy in direct sun or bright kitchen light.
What still has to happen is delivery and daily use. Amazon is offering $100 off for preorders, with a $69.99 stand or a $124.99 swivel-and-tilt stand sold separately. Certain features require Alexa+, which Amazon said is included with Prime. The company also detailed three new Screen Styles that turn the home screen into a persistent smart home dashboard, family organizer, or full-screen photo frame, plus Alexa Home Map, an interactive 3D map for controlling devices where they sit in the house.
The Show 16 did not arrive alone. Bloomberg reported Amazon unveiled a wider Alexa lineup at the same time, including refreshed Echo speakers and a digital photo frame alongside the Show 16, with a retooled software interface across the devices.
In a kitchen, the specs meet the failure points. Amazon said the new 13-megapixel wide-angle camera has the widest field of view yet on an Echo Show and doubles Visual ID range to up to 17 feet from 8 feet, with night vision for Live View checks in the Alexa app. Omnisense sensor fusion adds temperature and improved presence detection to trigger lights or thermostat changes, and advanced noise cancellation plus voice isolation is meant to cut through chatter. Auto-framing keeps video calls centered when kids wander in or you step to the stove. That is the workflow test. If the mics still miss you over a pan sizzle or the map cannot place a cheap plug correctly, the dashboard promise thins fast.
Fire TV is the practical payoff. Amazon said Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Prime Video, HBO Max, Peacock, Tubi and Pluto all run natively, with recommendations and recently watched rows like other Fire TV devices. You can browse with the included remote or ask Alexa+ to pick something, pull game stats over video, or move playback to another TV.
