Hengefinder

Hengefinder is a project and tool developed by Victoria Ritvo that allows users to find astronomical events, specifically 'henges,' where the sun aligns perfectly with east-west streets. Initially inspired by Manhattanhenge, the tool calculates the angle of a road and the azimuth of the sun at sunset to determine when these alignments will occur. It addresses challenges such as the Earth's curvature in calculating road bearings and the precise definition of sunset for alignment purposes. The project includes a website, a mobile app (developed by John Pribyl), and aims to make these natural phenomena explorable globally.
