Midjourney is an independent research lab that develops generative artificial intelligence programs and services. It is known for creating some of the most visually appealing AI models in the world. The service generates images from natural language descriptions, called prompts, similar to OpenAI's DALL-E and Stability AI's Stable Diffusion. Midjourney was launched into open beta on July 12, 2022, and is led by David Holz, who co-founded Leap Motion. The company was reportedly profitable as of August 2022. Artists use Midjourney for rapid prototyping of artistic concepts to show to clients before starting work themselves. The advertising industry has also adopted AI tools like Midjourney for creating original content and brainstorming ideas. Architects have used the software to generate mood boards for early project stages as an alternative to searching Google Images.
