About
There are 3 persistent long-term trends I’ve observed over the last 25 years that guide how I think about strategy & technology: first is that technology (especially in the realm of AI and Robotics) will continue to become more capable and affordable; second that people, while incredibly flexible, will continue to become more expensive and present scale & safety barriers as systems become more complex and remote (this shows up clearly in NTSB data, as one of many examples); and third that organizations that are able to successfully “vertically or horizontally integrate” will compete favorably w/ traditional organizations in the long term - Tesla and Apple as prototypical examples of Vertical Integration, and Boeing and Airbus as examples of Horizontal Integration - obviously Amazon Prime Air was also on that path. Organizations that don't seriously consider some form of deep integration may struggle to remain competitive in the long run - stating the obvious (but which is too often ignored): what made an organization successful in the past may not be what keeps it competitive in the future.
