I'm a maker by heart; wrote my first line of code at the age of 4 (Basic on a Commodore VIC-20). I was waiting for the indoor world to become smarter for much too long, so I've decided to do it myself. My 2 cents about the future: We'll start seeing the smart building eco-system becoming more and more mobile, with all sorts of autonomous mechanical helpers doing all of those little dull and dirty tasks. We already see it today with autonomous cleaning services - I imagine a world where those little creatures works in a perfect harmony to facilitate our lives, making the building a living organism.
