Ada: Welcome to Today in AI, I'm Ada.
Sam: And I'm Sam. Today, we're unpacking Google's colossal AI empire, from Cloud's booming revenue to Waymo's impressive valuation, plus a look at a startup revolutionizing battery supply chains for defense.
Ada: Let's start with the big news from Alphabet. Sundar Pichai's AI strategy is clearly paying off. Google Cloud just reported nearly twenty-five billion dollars in revenue for the second quarter of twenty-twenty-six, an eighty-two percent year-on-year increase. That makes it the fastest-growing major cloud platform on record.
Sam: It's a huge number, Ada, and it really underscores Google's commitment to AI. Beyond Cloud, Alphabet has poured forty billion dollars into Anthropic, showing they're serious about competing in the large language model space. And then there's Waymo, their self-driving unit, which has secured a staggering one hundred and twenty-six billion dollar valuation.
