Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) brings back Amazon Second Chance Deal Days 2025 on Sept 1 with up to 50 percent off refurbished and returned goods, according to Amazon News.

It is a coordinated push across three regions tied to Labor Day in the US and back to school demand in Europe.

Where and when the deals land

Second Chance Deal Days runs Sept 1 to 10 in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain and Aug 31 to Sept 6 in Mexico and Brazil.

US shoppers get Second Chance Savings inside Labor Day Deals from Aug 28 to Sept 7 with up to 30 percent off already discounted refurbished items.

Brazil offers Semana da Segunda Chance starting at 10 percent off while Mexico runs Semana de Segunda Vida with up to 30 percent off selected pre loved products.

What is actually on sale

Amazon lists over 60 million returned and refurbished items in Europe and millions in the US, with average savings of 20 percent versus recommended retail price.

Thousands of good condition deals during the event cover Apple, Sony, Samsung, Beats, LEGO, plus Ninja, Shark, Breville, Garmin, ASUS and Amazon Pre-Owned Devices in the US.

UK and German shoppers also get an extra 15 percent off already discounted pre loved bags and accessories from luxury seller Luxclusif for the first time.

How Amazon makes returns resellable

Every return is inspected, tested, cleaned and repaired where needed, with like new units repriced lower than used condition stock.

Amazon says AI powered review summaries, detailed product information and size recommendation tech that satisfies more than 90 percent of buyers reduce bad purchases up front, plus flags on high return rate products.

Rory Feldman, European director of returns and recommerce, said the company invested more than $4 billion in European returns operations to keep more products in use.

How it compares to rivals

StartupHub.ai data shows Amazon scoring 81/100, ahead of Inter IKEA Group at 70/100, Wayfair at 59/100, Walmart at 41/100, Coupang at 49/100 and Qoo10 at 22/100, and Amazon has VERIFIED financials of $10B raised in 2025.

The scale matters because second hand sales already exceeded 2 billion euros in Europe last year and saved European customers 380 million euros, while US customers saved more than $1.5 billion on over 100 million second hand products.

Amazon reports second hand sales growing to nearly $4 billion so far this year, led by electronics, home and kitchen and top sellers like vacuums, espresso makers, phones, cameras and tablets, which pressures eBay Refurbished, Back Market and Walmart Restored.

Why this matters for startups and AI

Refurbished marketplaces are becoming logistics and trust businesses, not just storefronts.

Amazon is turning returns inspection, grading and AI assisted discovery into a moat that smaller recommerce startups cannot match without similar testing infrastructure and sourcing.

Its sustainability story also helps regulatory positioning in the EU, where right to repair rules and waste directives push retailers to extend product life, with 216 million items donated worldwide in 2025 and more than 50,000 electric delivery vans now operating globally.

For sellers and brands, the channel creates a formal outlet for returned inventory that would otherwise go to liquidation.

For buyers, it normalizes refurbished as a primary purchase option when new prices stay high.
