LawZero, the Montréal non-profit founded and scientifically led by Turing laureate Yoshua Bengio, secured a CAD 150M grant from Canada and EUR 100M commitment from Germany — combined ~$219M — announced September 16 at the ALL IN conference, marking the first capital call under the Canada-Germany Sovereign Technology Alliance (February Joint Declaration) and Canada's June 4, 2026 AI for All strategy.
Backed by Canada via the Strategic Response Fund (Minister Evan Solomon) and Germany (Minister Karsten Wildberger), the grant will fund Scientist AI — a safe-by-design, non-agentic alternative to autonomous agents designed to reason transparently without its own goals — with Canada's share for research/engineering talent and sovereign computing infrastructure built with Hypertec and 5C, and Germany's share for R&D at a new German office.
No commercial metrics were disclosed; the project is expected to create 360 full-time jobs in Canada, while Germany's EUR 100M portion remains subject to European Commission notification and is not yet final.
