PsiQuantum Secures $1 Billion Series E for Quantum Computer Development

PsiQuantum secured $1 billion in Series E funding. Funds and accounts managed by affiliates of BlackRock led the round. Temasek and Baillie Gifford also served as lead investors. This capital will accelerate the development of fault-tolerant quantum computers.

The funding values PsiQuantum at $7 billion. It enables the company to establish utility-scale quantum computing sites. These locations include Brisbane and Chicago. Furthermore, PsiQuantum will deploy large-scale prototype systems.

Advancing Quantum Technology and Partnerships

PsiQuantum focuses on photonic qubits for error correction. This approach leverages high-volume semiconductor manufacturing. The company collaborates with NVIDIA on quantum algorithms and GPU-QPU integration. Their Omega chipset, manufactured at GlobalFoundries’ Fab 8, utilizes Barium Titanate (BTO).

BTO integration enables ultra-high-performance optical switches. PsiQuantum manufactures 300mm BTO wafers in California. This technology also holds potential for next-generation AI supercomputers. Moreover, the company developed a high-density cooling solution, unlike traditional cryostats.

PsiQuantum demonstrated high-fidelity quantum networking using standard telecom fiber. This capability is crucial for utility-scale quantum computing. The company aims to deliver commercially useful machines, differentiating its approach from IBM Quantum or Google Quantum AI.

This significant PsiQuantum funding round propels its mission to build million-qubit scale systems.
