LeydenJar Secures €13M for Silicon Anode Production Launch

Dutch DeepTech startup LeydenJar secured €13 million in a new funding round. Extantia and Invest-NL led this investment. Thus, the capital will launch its first 100% silicon anode production facility.

LeydenJar, a Leiden-based company, develops 100% pure silicon anodes for lithium-ion batteries. This technology significantly increases battery capacity by 50%. Furthermore, it delivers higher energy density and faster charging.

Powering Next-Gen Battery Manufacturing

The company will use the €13 million to complete its PlantOne facility in Eindhoven. Operations will begin in 2027. Moreover, PlantOne will host proprietary PECVD machines for silicon anode roll production.

In addition, LeydenJar secured €10 million in customer funding. A leading US-based consumer electronics company provided this capital. It supports the development and installation of key production equipment.

LeydenJar's technology attracts interest from global OEMs and cell manufacturers. It enables smaller, lighter, and more powerful batteries. Consequently, this unlocks new products like AI-powered wearables and longer-range electric vehicles.

The PlantOne factory will produce 125,000 m² of Silyte annually. This volume suffices for 5 million smartphone batteries. Alternatively, it covers the entire global demand for earbuds.

LeydenJar aims to surpass current battery cells from top-tier producers like CATL and Samsung. Indeed, the company also competes with innovators like Tesla in battery technology.
