Bedrock Robotics, a San Francisco-based company developing advanced autonomous systems for the construction industry, has emerged from stealth with $80 million in Seed and Series A funding. The Series A round was led by 8VC, while Eclipse spearheaded the Seed round. This significant capital infusion will fuel the company's growth and accelerate its mission to transform heavy equipment fleets.

## Advancing Construction Automation

Bedrock Robotics focuses on upgrading existing heavy equipment with reversible, same-day hardware and software installations. This approach enables fully autonomous operations, addressing the critical shortage of construction workers and increasing domestic infrastructure needs. The company's technology bridges the expanding gap between rising demand and shrinking workforce capacity. Furthermore, it aims to improve cost, schedule, safety, and predictability for labor-intensive projects.

The leadership team includes former Waymo and Segment leaders, bringing extensive experience in machine learning and autonomy. Laurent Hautefeuille, formerly an EVP at Uber Freight, recently joined as COO. Bedrock's Operator system integrates with current construction machines, starting with excavators. These systems are already operational on customer sites in Arizona, Texas, and Arkansas.

The company plans to use the new funding to expand its engineering, operations, and commercialization teams. Additionally, it will deepen partnerships to achieve initial operator-less deployment by 2026. Bedrock collaborates closely with firms like Sundt Construction, Zachry Construction, Champion Site Prep, and Capitol Aggregates. This investment positions Bedrock Robotics alongside other innovators in the autonomous construction technology sector, such as Built Robotics and traditional players like Caterpillar and Komatsu who are also advancing AI in heavy equipment.
