Anything's $11M Bet: Vibe Coding Moves Beyond Prototypes

The 'vibe coding' revolution, where AI-powered tools let anyone build apps with natural language, is hitting a new inflection point. While startups like Lovable and Replit boast explosive growth, a critical gap has remained: turning those AI-generated prototypes into fully functional, production-ready businesses. Now, a new player, Anything, has secured an $11 million funding round to bridge that divide, promising to empower a new wave of non-technical founders to launch real app businesses.

Anything, co-founded by former Google colleagues Dhruv Amin and Marcus Lowe, announced its $11 million financing round at a $100 million valuation on Monday. The round was led by Footwork, with additional backing from Uncork, Bessemer, and M13. This investment arrives as the company, launched just a month ago, has already hit a $2 million annualized run rate in its first two weeks.

The market for AI-assisted coding is undeniably hot. Swedish startup Lovable reached $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in just eight months, while Replit's ARR soared from $2.8 million to $150 million in less than a year. "This is one of those spaces where every company is growing like a weed," notes Nikhil Trivedi, co-founder and general partner at Footwork, Anything's lead investor.

However, Trivedi points out a significant limitation among many of these rapidly growing platforms: they excel at generating initial concepts but often fall short when it comes to the backend infrastructure needed for a viable product. "You haven’t really seen real businesses built on top of any of these tools," Anything co-founder Dhruv Amin told The Verge. "We want to be the Shopify of the space, where people build apps that make money on top of us."

Anything's differentiation lies in its comprehensive, in-house infrastructure, providing everything from databases and storage to payment functionality. This soup-to-nuts approach means users don't have to piece together disparate services to get their AI-generated app off the ground.

The Autonomous Engineer Arrives

The impact of this full-stack approach is already evident. Anything reports that non-traditional founders are rapidly building and monetizing applications. A financial analyst has generated $34,000 selling AI tools, a Hollywood producer is aiming for $20,000 MRR with a children’s AI learning app submitted to the App Store, and a medical student is charging $85/month for a CPR training app. These are not just prototypes; they are revenue-generating businesses.

Adding another layer to its ambition, Anything this week launched 'Anything Max,' an autonomous software engineer priced at $199/month. Max is designed to operate like a human engineer: it tries an app, identifies bugs, writes code, and ships features independently. Users can even deploy multiple Max agents in parallel to tackle different aspects of a project simultaneously. This capability promises to further democratize software development, allowing anyone with an idea to have an AI team build and maintain their product.

Amin and Lowe's journey to Anything began with a bootstrapped development marketplace, but the rise of large language models (LLMs) convinced them that generative AI could deliver apps faster and cheaper. They pivoted in 2023, raising pre-seed and seed funding before this latest round. While competitors like Mocha and Rork are also building their own infrastructure, Anything's early traction and the introduction of Max position it as a formidable contender in the race to make vibe coding truly viable for commercial ventures.
