OpenAI and Fast Campus Empower Seniors with AI Skills in Seoul

In a move to democratize artificial intelligence, OpenAI and Fast Campus have joined forces to deliver a hands-on AI education program in Seoul. The initiative specifically targeted learners in their 50s and 60s, aiming to equip them with practical skills using tools like ChatGPT and Codex. Bridging the Tech Gap for Seniors

Shin Hae Dong, CEO of Day1 Company and Fast Campus, emphasized the organization's passion for reducing the technology gap. He noted that technology often appears daunting, but the advent of tools like ChatGPT and Codex has significantly lowered the barrier to entry. This educational program is designed to make AI accessible and practical for those who might not have had prior exposure.

Oh So Young, AI Education Lead at Fast Campus, shared a personal motivation for the program, stemming from the growing issue of unprepared retirement in Korea. Witnessing her own father's struggles after an unexpected retirement, she felt compelled to help others facing similar challenges. The program aims to provide seniors with the skills to re-engage with the workforce or pursue new ventures, ensuring they are not left behind by technological advancements.

Learning by Building with AI

The program's hands-on approach was a central theme. Participants were able to create their own results using Codex within just one hour, demonstrating the immediate practical value of the tools. They realized that producing complex outputs with Codex and ChatGPT was more accessible than they might have initially imagined. This experiential learning fostered a sense of accomplishment and demystified AI for many.

Yeon Gyu Seo, a senior participant, expressed his desire to utilize his decades of accumulated knowledge in new ways. He hopes to apply OpenAI's ChatGPT and AI tools to live a better life and continue contributing. Similarly, Seo Gyo Nam, another participant, shared her experience of helping older women who are not very familiar with AI or computers. She saw the potential of these tools to significantly aid her business, leading her to start her own venture.

Jung Mi Jung, a senior participant and artist, shared her goal of learning to animate her paintings, turning her artwork into visually engaging videos.
