Stripe wants you to incorporate without leaving your dev environment, and it detailed the workflow on Oct. 19 via its developer blog.
The pitch is simple: start an Atlas application from chat or terminal.
Two paths are supported, according to the company. You can talk to an agent connected to Stripe's hosted MCP server at https://mcp.stripe.com, or you can run Stripe CLI with the tools plugin. In both cases Atlas saves progress, so you can bounce between agent, terminal and Dashboard without restarting, the company said. The post is by Atlas engineers Jim Yang and Brett Karpinos.
The setup leans on familiar plumbing. The recommended install is npm install -g @stripe/cli@latest, then stripe agent setup and stripe plugin install tools, which the company said auto-configures agents like Claude Code and Cursor. For a direct connection, the example is claude mcp add --transport http stripe https://mcp.stripe.com/ then /mcp in Claude Code to authorize in the browser. Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients can point at the same remote server.
Once authorized, you describe intent in plain language, the company said. "I'm ready to incorporate my company with Stripe Atlas. There are two founders, and we plan to raise venture funding," triggers creation of an Atlas application tied to your Stripe account, followed by an explicit authorization step before collection continues.
The demo walkthrough uses a fictional ElementraAI Labs, built by founders Maya Chen and Jordan Williams. The agent asks for legal name, description, website, phone and address, then founder names, emails, board seats, ownership split, equity pool, officer roles and vesting. In the example, Maya owns 45%, Jordan 45%, with 10% reserved for employees, four-year vesting with a one-year cliff from incorporation. Atlas validates each value as it is entered, the company said, and bounces a bad website like elementraai.example until you add https://.
That validation is the real control plane. The blog stresses Atlas remains the source of truth in every interface, determines requirements, validates values and keeps state. Agents are instructed not to choose Delaware C corp versus LLC for you, or to propose splits and vesting. You decide, you confirm before any update is sent, and you can edit or add founders mid-flow. One founder must be marked as the representative for a C corp, or the application will not proceed.
Here is where the developer fantasy meets paperwork. After the conversational collection passes validation, the work stops short of filing. Sensitive identity, payment, document review and signatures still happen directly with Stripe in the Dashboard, the company said. The agent gets you to a validated draft and a link to continue securely, it does not submit. That gating is consistent with why agents still struggle to handle money autonomously, where human authorization remains the backstop.
Terminal users get the same flow without chat. After installing the tools plugin, stripe tools search atlas and stripe tools create_atlas_application drive structured prompts, reusing your CLI session or prompting for Stripe login, the company said. A coding agent can invoke those commands and narrate steps, but CLI still mediates auth and talks to Atlas.
The post-formation tail is unchanged. Atlas handles incorporation of Delaware C corps and LLCs, retrieves the EIN, initiates founder vesting and files 83(b) elections where applicable, provides status, documents and next steps in the Dashboard, plus $2,500 in Stripe credits in year one and access to more than $50,000 in partner offers, according to the company.
Stripe frames this as scope expansion for its MCP surface, which already covers checkout building and financial operations. That breadth is unusual. Stripe ships both a hosted MCP server and a REST API that has been production-grade for over a decade, and the two overlap but are not identical, per Scalekit’s comparison of the approaches.
For teams that live in the terminal, this removes one context switch. For everyone else, the hard parts are still human: picking entity type, ownership and tax treatment, plus handing over ID and signing. The agent can carry the clipboard, it cannot sign the form.
