Salt & Fiber

Salt & Fiber is a Malmö-based ClimateTech startup that transforms beach-cast seagrass into sustainable textile yarns. Their solution addresses the dual problem of coastal municipalities spending significant amounts on landfilling seagrass, which releases methane, and the high environmental impact of conventional textile production. By utilizing seagrass, which requires no fresh water, fertilizers, or land, and is plant-based, biodegradable, and free from synthetic polymers and microplastic shedding, Salt & Fiber offers an environmentally responsible alternative for the textile industry. Their fibers are naturally fire-resistant and processed without harmful chemicals or toxic by-products. The company is currently in pilot production and aims for commercialization between 2027 and 2028.
