Vantage Data Centers has secured a $1.6 billion investment to expand its Asia-Pacific platform. The funding was led by existing investors GIC, a global institutional investor, and a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).
This capital is designated to accelerate the company's regional expansion.
Fueling Malaysian Expansion
A significant portion of the investment will fund the acquisition of a +300Mw hyperscale data center campus in Johor, Malaysia. Vantage Data Centers is acquiring the campus, located in Sedenak Tech Park, from Yondr Group. Furthermore, the campus sits on nearly 73 acres and will be known as JHB1 once the deal is finalized.
The Johor campus is strategically located within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. It offers dark fiber connectivity and will feature sustainable technologies like direct-to-chip liquid cooling. The region is a key growth market for digital infrastructure, where providers like Equinix are also expanding their footprint.
This acquisition will bring Vantage's total planned and operational capacity in the APAC region to 1Gw.
The expansion is driven by surging AI demand, which requires massive data processing capabilities. Consequently, investors are increasing their commitments to data center operators that can provide the necessary scale, a market where Digital Realty is also a major competitor.
The investment and the Johor campus acquisition are both expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, pending customary closing conditions.
