Sierra, the AI agents startup co-founded by tech veteran Bret Taylor, has closed a $350 million funding round led by Greenoaks, catapulting its valuation to $10 billion. This significant capital injection more than doubles the company's valuation from its previous funding round in October 2024, which valued the company at $4.5 billion.
The new funding comes as the AI agents sector continues to attract major investment, following on the heels of other large-scale raises, such as Anthropic's recent $13 billion round.
Fueling AI Agent Expansion
Sierra's business centers on developing and implementing autonomous AI agents for customer service. These agents are designed to handle a wide range of tasks for users, from refinancing homes and ordering food to troubleshooting technology issues. The company plans to use the fresh capital to further invest in its platform and accelerate its domestic and international expansion.
According to a blog post from the co-founders, in just 18 months, Sierra has secured hundreds of customers, including major brands in financial services, healthcare, and retail. The company's agents currently assist hundreds of millions of people, demonstrating the platform's rapid adoption and impact.
Sierra's co-founder, Bret Taylor, brings a distinguished resume to the company. In addition to his current role as chairman of OpenAI's board, he previously served as co-CEO of Salesforce and held key positions at Google and Facebook, where he co-created Google Maps and served as CTO, respectively. His co-founder, Clay Bavor, is a former Google executive who led Google Labs.
The company's platform, "Agent OS," is designed to empower both customer experience teams and developers to build effective AI agents. The platform allows businesses to "ground" their agents with company-specific knowledge, policies, and brand guidelines, ensuring they provide empathetic and accurate support. Sierra also offers an outcome-based pricing model, where customers pay only when the AI agent successfully achieves a specific, valuable result.
This new funding round highlights the intense investor confidence in Sierra's technology and its potential to redefine customer experience through autonomous, human-like AI agents.
