Lake.com is an AI-powered vacation rental marketplace and online travel platform for vacations by the water. The company operates a booking engine built specifically for waterfront travel, helping families and groups discover, compare and reserve lake houses, cottages, cabins, beach houses and riverfront properties through conversational AI search, map-based browsing, live availability and pricing, transparent fees and 1-click checkout with multi-currency payments.
Lake.com is organized around a single job to be done: finding the right stay by the water. Rather than competing across every accommodation category, the company concentrates on drive-to lake, beach, river and marina destinations that generalist online travel agencies treat as long-tail inventory. Destination content, property listings, attractions, marinas, parks and events are unified in a vertical travel graph spanning roughly 10,000 destinations, 75,000 properties and 5,000 tournaments and events. Because the lake or shoreline is modeled as a first-class entity rather than a map radius, the platform can rank inventory by distance to water and by waterfront amenities such as private docks, boat slips, swimmable shoreline and on-site watercraft.
The marketplace is built for family and group travel rather than solo transient stays. Listings surface total pricing inclusive of fees, bedroom and sleeping configuration, pet policies, and proximity to water, boat launches and local attractions, supported by destination guides covering boating, fishing, seasonal events and nearby state and provincial parks.
The product addresses a research problem specific to leisure travel. According to Expedia's Path to Purchase study, travelers visit 277 web pages and spend 303 minutes researching before booking, roughly seven times the research effort required in 2013. Lake.com consolidates that process into one AI layer that runs from inspiration through reservation.
Supply is aggregated through integrations with six property management systems and channel managers, including Guesty, Rentals United and BookingPal, alongside direct relationships with professional property management companies and independent hosts. As of 2026, approximately 850 property managers and 75,000 properties are live on the platform, with 250,000 monthly active users and an average order value near US$1,600, based on a $400 average daily rate across a four-night stay.
The company earns a 10 percent commission on each completed stay, with hosts retaining 90 percent, compared with effective take rates of 15 to 30 percent on incumbent short-term rental platforms. Lake.com sizes the global market for stays, attractions and experiences by the water at $200 billion, of which $84 billion is water-adjacent vacation rentals, and estimates a serviceable obtainable market of $20 billion across 350,000 waterfront properties. The company reports that 88 percent of that waterfront inventory is not yet bookable online.
Three structural shifts underpin the company's timing. Outdoor and drive-to travel demand has grown, with roughly one in three travelers now actively seeking quieter destinations over cities. Adoption of AI trip planning has moved into the mainstream: 81 percent of high-income travelers report having used AI travel planning tools, according to Skift's State of Travel 2026. And professional property managers are actively diversifying distribution toward lower-cost channels.
Demand reaches the marketplace through organic search on the lake.com domain, iOS and Android apps, Google Vacation Rentals, and AI assistant surfaces including a ChatGPT app and model context protocol connectors. Lake.com also publishes free tools for hosts and property managers, including a Vacation Rental Optimizer that reviews listing titles, descriptions, photography and pricing.
