Databricks is expanding its Azure offerings with a suite of new features aimed at streamlining data management and AI development. Announced at the Microsoft Fabric Community Conference (FabCon) 2026, these updates include the general availability of Azure Databricks Lakebase, enhancements to its AI assistant Genie, and the introduction of a Lakeflow Connect Free Tier. The move underscores Databricks' strategy to deepen its integration with Microsoft's cloud ecosystem and make its Lakehouse platform more accessible.
The new Lakeflow Connect Free Tier is designed to lower the barrier to entry for organizations looking to centralize their data. It provides 100 free Databricks Units (DBUs) per day, allowing for the ingestion of approximately 100 million records daily into the lakehouse without charge. This feature supports mirroring data from popular SaaS applications and databases directly into Azure Data Lake Storage, governed by Unity Catalog.
