Stripe is betting big on the AI agent economy, unveiling a suite of tools designed to let businesses sell directly through artificial intelligence. At its annual Sessions conference, the payments giant announced the expansion of its Agentic Commerce Suite, positioning itself as the financial backbone for a future where AI assistants handle transactions. This move signals a fundamental shift in how consumers might shop, with AI agents becoming active participants in the purchasing process.
The company detailed significant partnerships with Meta and Google. Businesses will soon be able to sell products natively within Facebook ads, allowing for discovery and purchase in a single flow. Furthermore, a collaboration with Google aims to enable purchases via AI Mode and the Gemini app through the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). This integration means customers could soon buy directly from AI interfaces, blurring the lines between research and transaction.
Stripe's financial infrastructure is being adapted to support these new AI-driven interactions. The Agentic Commerce Suite now allows businesses to upload product catalogs and manage agent access directly from the Stripe Dashboard. For platforms, the suite offers a way to enable their connected accounts to become 'agent-ready,' handling discovery, checkout, payments, and fraud detection through a unified Stripe integration.
Underpinning these capabilities is the new Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), co-authored by Stripe and Tempo. This protocol allows AI agents to transact programmatically, supporting microtransactions and recurring payments. Stripe is facilitating these transactions via its PaymentIntents API, accepting payments from agents in stablecoins and fiat currencies through various methods like cards, Klarna, and Affirm, utilizing Shared Payment Tokens (SPTs).
Link, Stripe's accelerated checkout solution, is also being adapted for agents. Businesses can now grant agents the ability to pay using a Link agent wallet, with controls for spending approvals and purchase visibility. Link is also expanding its payment method support, now including Pix for Brazilian customers and stablecoins for US businesses, with UPI for India on the horizon.
Checkout Studio, a new tool, promises to simplify the creation and optimization of checkout experiences. It features an AI assistant, live transaction replays, and A/B testing capabilities. Stripe is also introducing a new embedded form for Checkout, designed for seamless integration into sidebars, chat boxes, and modals, further streamlining the purchase path.
Stripe Terminal is gaining new hardware and capabilities. The Stripe Reader T600, an eight-inch touchscreen device, can run custom apps for loyalty programs and upsells. In-person payments are expanding to 15 additional markets, including Hong Kong and Mexico, with support for payment methods like Alipay and UnionPay International. A standalone mode for Terminal will allow for quick, code-free payment acceptance.
Managed Payments, Stripe's merchant-of-record solution, is now available to all digital businesses. It handles global tax compliance across over 80 countries, along with fraud prevention, dispute management, and customer support.
The Payments Intelligence Suite is introducing A/B testing for Authorization Boost, aiming to improve acceptance rates and lower processing costs through AI-powered optimizations. Stripe's 3DS solution can now be used standalone for regulatory compliance and fraud protection, even for payments processed by other providers.
Radar, Stripe's fraud prevention tool, is receiving its most significant upgrades. New features target token abuse, account fraud, and bot abuse, aiming to distinguish legitimate AI agents from malicious actors. Stripe Signals is being enhanced with new payment, customer, and merchant signals to predict disputes, detect multi-account abuse, and assess fraud risk for new accounts. Issuing authorization signals will extend fraud prediction to non-Stripe issuers.
Stripe's Revenue suite is being re-engineered for AI-native business models, supporting dimensional pricing and streaming payments. Metronome, a Stripe product, will now power usage-based and hybrid pricing models, offering real-time revenue visibility. The integration of Metronome and Tempo enables streaming payments, allowing businesses to get paid as value is delivered.
Stripe Tax is automating US tax filing and expanding its connector ecosystem with integrations for Shopify and NetSuite. The service will also verify tax IDs against government databases during checkout flows. Tax calculations can now be integrated directly into the PaymentIntents API with a single parameter.
Data capabilities are also being enhanced. The company previewed Stripe Database, offering real-time Stripe data in a managed, read-only PostgreSQL database. This aims to accelerate application development for businesses relying on Stripe data.
