Databricks has partnered with Stripe to integrate its platform with Stripe Projects, a new command-line interface designed for AI agents. This collaboration aims to automate the provisioning of production-ready Neon Postgres databases, a critical step previously requiring human oversight.

Traditionally, AI agents could scaffold and deploy full-stack applications rapidly, but setting up the underlying infrastructure remained a manual bottleneck. This involved human intervention for service provisioning, account configuration, and payment details, significantly slowing down autonomous development.

Autonomous Infrastructure for AI Agents

Stripe Projects, with Databricks as a launch partner, introduces a fully agentic provisioning tool. AI coding agents can now discover, provision, and pay for Neon Postgres databases in under 350 milliseconds, eliminating the need for human involvement.

This capability is built upon Neon's Lakebase architecture, a serverless Postgres database engineered for the AI era. By decoupling compute from storage, Lakebase allows for the rapid creation and teardown of OLTP databases.

Key technical pillars of the Lakebase architecture include serverless scaling with a scale-to-zero capability, ensuring dynamic resource adjustment and eliminating idle costs for agents. Instant database branching, powered by zero-copy cloning, enables agents to create isolated data branches for safe testing and experimentation without impacting production environments.

The inherent familiarity of Postgres for AI agents further streamlines development and automation on the Lakebase architecture.

Broader Databricks-Stripe Collaboration

Beyond Stripe Projects, Databricks also announced the Stripe Data Pipeline, now available on the Databricks Marketplace. This allows customers to analyze Stripe payment and business data directly within their Databricks accounts without complex ETL processes.
