Snowflake Taps Google Vet for Security

Snowflake has appointed Mayank Upadhyay as its new Chief Security & Trust Officer. This strategic hire underscores the company's commitment to bolstering its security posture, particularly as AI technologies become more integrated into enterprise platforms.

Upadhyay, a veteran of Google's security infrastructure, will oversee the entirety of Snowflake's security operations. His mandate is to unify corporate defense and product engineering, creating a cohesive security foundation essential for the agentic era. Upadhyay brings over two decades of experience from Google. He previously served as Vice President of Engineering for Google Cloud, securing both its public platform and private infrastructure. His tenure included significant contributions to foundational technologies.

He was instrumental in embedding security controls into Kubernetes precursors and co-founded Google's pioneering zero-trust architecture, BeyondCorp. Upadhyay also led the rollout of two-step verification and championed the transition to passkeys for authentication.

His career philosophy centers on seamless, frictionless security integration for users. Snowflake believes this approach is crucial for navigating the current technological landscape.
