Amazon is deploying a multi-layered defense system to safeguard its vast shipping network against the escalating threat of freight fraud and theft. The e-commerce giant is implementing stringent carrier evaluations, advanced trailer technology, and close collaboration with law enforcement to protect its supply chain.
The logistics industry faces a persistent challenge from organized retail crime (ORC) and other forms of freight fraud, which exploit vulnerabilities across the global supply chain. These criminal networks are increasingly sophisticated, often employing identity fraud tactics to infiltrate legitimate operations.
Screening and Monitoring Carriers
Before any carrier can transport Amazon's freight, they undergo a thorough vetting process that exceeds federal requirements. Amazon's proprietary Amazon Relay app is central to this, featuring daily carrier screening and driver verification.
The Relay program meticulously verifies a carrier’s operating authority, ownership, business affiliations, and safety records. This extends to drivers, who must pass real-time photo checks and license validation to ensure only authorized personnel handle cargo.
