Salt Typhoon

Salt Typhoon is a sophisticated hacking group, attributed to China, that has been involved in one of the broadest cyberattack campaigns in recent years. Their primary objective appears to be the espionage and intelligence gathering to aid China in preparing for potential future conflicts, particularly concerning Taiwan. The group has a significant focus on compromising telecommunications infrastructure, including Cisco routers at the network edge, and exploiting surveillance devices installed for law enforcement access. Their targets include major phone and internet providers worldwide, as well as government networks, universities, and various critical infrastructure sectors. The hacks have resulted in the theft of tens of millions of phone records, including call logs, text messages, and audio, pertaining to senior government officials in various countries. The FBI has issued warnings and recommendations for enhanced security measures due to the pervasive nature of these attacks.
