Wherobots, the Spatial Intelligence Cloud platform developed by the original team behind Apache Sedona, is pleased to announce its achievement of SOC 2 Type 2 attestation. An independent auditing firm conducted a comprehensive evaluation and verified that Wherobots’ practices and controls align with the stringent security requirements established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
“We are thrilled to reach this milestone,” said Maxime Petazzoni, Head of Engineering at Wherobots. “Security is not an add-on—it is central to our engineering philosophy and is integrated into every aspect of our technology development and management. Attaining SOC 2 Type 2 attestation demonstrates our ongoing pledge to security and ensures we are meeting the gold standard for compliance as defined by the AICPA.”
SOC 2 (System and Organization Controls) is a widely respected framework used by leading organizations to evaluate software providers’ ability to protect sensitive data. While a Type 1 report assesses the design of security controls at a single point in time, a Type 2 attestation evaluates the effectiveness of those controls over an extended duration.
“Our clients rely on us to keep their data safe, whether they are analyzing public datasets or managing confidential information,” noted Jia Yu, Wherobots’ Chief Architect. “With SOC 2 Type 2 attestation, they can be confident that their data is secure at every stage of processing.”
Wherobots provides a Spatial Intelligence Cloud platform designed to handle large-scale geospatial data for analytics and artificial intelligence. Founded by the creators of Apache Sedona, the company aims to solve the performance issues that legacy systems and traditional data lakehouses face when dealing with massive spatial datasets. Wherobots enables organizations to perform data operations at a planetary scale, allowing them to clean, filter, and link datasets based on geographic location to uncover meaningful patterns and trends.
The company’s product suite includes Wherobots Cloud for cloud computing, WherobotsDB as a scalable analytics engine, WherobotsAI for aerial imagery inference, and a Spatial Catalog to manage data assets. What makes Wherobots special is its foundation in Apache Sedona, a widely-used open-source technology for distributed spatial data processing, which has been downloaded over 42 million times. This allows Wherobots to offer scalable, production-ready solutions for spatial ETL, analytics, and AI workloads, trusted by Fortune 500 companies for their enterprise needs.
